The 2006 CIT group

Wilderness Northwest Counselor in Training Program

Our program is aimed at and designed for teens who have made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ and desire to be challenged with the demands of true Christian discipleship.

“And He was saying to them all, ‘If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.’” Luke 9:23

Our goal is to help train and equip the CIT’s in areas of : Team building, testimony, commitment, gifts of serving, dependability, willingness, cooperation, and growing into the image of Jesus Christ.

We have a group of upstanding and normal……citizens :)

We have begun a new year of training for our Counselor’s In Training (CIT) Program. This program is for High school and older teens who want to be discipled. We try to meet monthly in order to disciple, challenge, study the Word, work as a team and grow in knowledge and truth of God’s Word and their walk with God. Oftentimes, these young adults will help staff our Day Camp program teaching, getting to know the kids, doing dramas and having a pretty good time.

“Wilderness Northwest CIT program has helped me grow in my walk with the Lord more than anything else. It’s been so awesome. I also really enjoy helping out at Camp too!”

Historical news vol.1.1

Following are some exerps from the first newsletter sent out by Wilderness Northwest, typed by an old-fashioned type-writer and individually addressed with a greeting to each subscriber. This is the newsletter from November/December 1979. “Camping Ministries for Family Life Enrichment” The pictures were not included, but were taken during the same time period of some of the original staff, founders and starters of Wilderness Northwest.

Some of the WNW founders around one of the first signs

This is our first newsletter, and as we share something God is doing in our lives, hopefully we can make you feel a part of what is happening. Some will be introduced to our work for the first time, while others have had a hand in it already. The Lord is moving in challenging ways here, and we felt many from God’s family would be interested in knowing more. The initial event began back in January of this year when some 23 people from the northwest met up the Duckabush River for fellowship and to discuss the feasability of developing a Family Life Camp facility on Hood Canal. Wilderness Northwest was the name given to this potential camp ministry.

The old sign

In the following months, much thought and prayer went into the desire to build a ministry meeting vital needs and fulfilling the vision God has given us. THe mechanics moved slowly as we sought personal commitments, definite direction, and patience for God’s perfect timing. We believe the time to act is now.

Consequently we have been awakened to the growing need for spiritual renewal and growth in our community of Brinnon, and so the necessity for forming a functioning church body to build people and support this ministry is our first big step of action. We believe the Lord is behind this work, using people to meet the needs of people for worship, instruction, service and fellowship. As Solomon faced a seemingly impossible task such as this, we gain encouragement from King David’s words:
“Be strong and courageous and act: do not fear, nor be dismayed for the Lord God, my God ,is with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished.” I Chronicles 28:20
This is a mission project in the fullest sense, dedicated to a Bible based, Christ centered, and people oriented ministry, and we covet much prayer from God’s family. We are confronted daily with important decisions and are constantly seeking guidance. It is important that our efforts in breaking new ground here are in your thoughts and concerns.

We have no denominations or estabnlished organization sponsoring this new ministry, so we are totally trusting the Lord to provide what is needed. This is the most challenging and exciting project I’ve been involved in, and would encourage anyone desiring to support a mission work like this, or the building project to believe that God will certainly bless any commitment.
In His Service,
